Cheyne House, Tunbridge Wells

Set within the leafy surroundings of Langton Green, near Tunbridge Wells, this project involved the comprehensive renovation, remodelling and extension of a substantial 1920s family home.

Working alongside Simon Whitehead Architects, McGarry Contracts delivered a carefully considered transformation that respected the character and architectural heritage of the original property while creating bright, contemporary living spaces tailored to modern family life.

Elevating Residential Living with Quality and Precision

The works included a double-storey side extension, a rear extension and extensive internal remodelling across both ground and first floors. Existing layouts were reconfigured to improve circulation and functionality, creating generous open-plan family spaces, additional bedroom accommodation and a luxurious principal suite.

Internally, the house underwent a complete refurbishment with high-quality finishes, bespoke joinery, upgraded building services and underfloor heating, creating a home that combines period charm with contemporary comfort.

More than a decade after completion, the project remains a testament to the value of thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship and careful attention to detail. The result is a timeless family home that continues to feel as relevant and elegant today as when it was first completed.

At the heart of the project is a bespoke kitchen and family room designed to connect seamlessly with the garden. Large areas of glazing and carefully considered detailing maximise natural light throughout the home while maintaining the property’s traditional character and proportions
